Inis Cealtra National School

Iniscealtra National School is situated 1 km west of Mountshannon village on the shores of Lough Derg in North East Clare. The townland in which the school stands is called Cappaduff and close by is St. Caimins Catholic Church.

The area is noted for its natural beauty and has been recipient of various awards through the years, The most notable of these was in 1981 when Mountshannon was overall winner in the Bord Failte Tidy Town competition.

Geographically the area is a narrow strip of land running east-west. On the northern side the slopes of the Slieve Aughty range rise steeply from the village while to the south we have Scariff Bay on Lough Derg - part of the Shannon waterway. The town of Scariff lies five miles to the west and Whitegate village is three miles to the east.
